Rise of Virtual Reality

First of all, happy new year! It’s 2017 now. Last year, we saw lots of improvements and innovations in science, medical and technology industries. From robotics, space exploration, gadgets, faster cell regeneration to new elements, better learning system, and advanced film making. Indeed, we almost have everything now, and with that, we also find new ways to do things in a better and in a more efficient way. But for now, let’s focus on the Technological Industry side, specifically, the Rise of Virtual Reality.

Virtual Reality, as of now, is being used in a wide variety of applications throughout different industries. Currently, we have virtual games, rides, movies, videos, and many more. But what if we can improve more of this technology, and apply it into much more useful things?

Virtual Reality on Websites

For example, a few weeks ago, I have seen this website of BMW Paris Motorshow 2016, where you can explore a wide range of car models, virtually. You can walk through different car types, see its technical specifications and, especially, see the inside of the car.

Using our imagination, let’s improve this thing a little bit more. What if, we can go inside this, virtually, using a VR headset, and do a test drive with it? Additionally, as soon as you’ve finished the test drive, a sales agent will approach you and discuss about the technical specifications, papers, requirements and anything related to the car you’ve just test drive, all of that, virtually! Now that’s really amazing, because you’ve just driven your dream car, talk to a sales agent, and probably, buy that car and you didn’t even need to leave your home to do all that. With just your VR headset, everything was at your fingertips.

I believe that this type of application of Virtual Reality technology can really enhance the way we design and build websites and web apps nowadays. At the moment, all we see in eCommerce Sites are product catalogue, cart and quick checkout methods. But with the integration of VR, we might be able to take this to a higher level and possible, bring something new into the table. As a result, increasing and demanding a more innovative and intuitive digital experiences of users.

Other Applications

Truly, the applications of VR is endless. We might be able to see lots of advancements in other fields such as automotive manufacturing,. Where engineers can make prototypes of machines virtually, reducing costs and increasing accuracy on production. Similarly, with the medical field, we might be able to develop a system where surgeons can practice difficult procedures with 3D models of a patient’s anatomy.

Obviously, Virtual Reality had been proven useful to a lot of things. And as we move forward to the future, we are now nearing to a point where people will rely more on virtual things rather than 2D objects on screens. Will this be the end for traditional Web Design? Or will it be merged with Virtual Reality to produce an entirely new technology, introducing newer and efficient solutions? Let’s all keep our eyes on it, cause as many people are saying, the future is here.
